Winifred Malena

Winifred (Peg) Malena, age 95, of Erie, passed away Monday February 24, 2014 at Manchester Commons.

She was born in Edinboro, PA, on March 15, 1918, daughter of the late George R. and Ruth McLallen Steiger.

Mrs. Malena was a graduate of Albion High School and the Erie Infants Home and Hospital.

She was a charter member of Church of The Cross, and a former member of Westminster

Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. She was a demitted member of the Order of

Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, needle point and reading.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Malena, Sr. and two brothers, Burnell Raymond Steiger and Jack Ellis Steiger.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth King and her husband, Olyn, of Erie, and Sue Ellen Cavanaugh, and her husband, Robert, of Tom's River, NJ, a son, Frank James Malena, Jr., and his wife, Rene’, of McKean; five grandchildren; Tiffany Budzynski, Brian Cavanaugh, Amy Capito, Eric Malena and his wife Megan and Zachary Malena and his fiancée Sara and two step-grandchildren; Denise Biletnikoff and Joanne Nestor. She is further survived by five great grandchildren; Ethan and Jacob Budzynski, Amanda and Kayla Capito and Kayden Patruso; four step great grandchildren Samuel and Henry Nestor, Cody and Rianna Biletnikoff; one nephew Jack Steiger and one niece Sandra Schrecengost.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home on Sunday March 2 from 12:30 pm until the time of the memorial service at 3:30 pm with Deacon Dr. Tony Alleruzzo officiating. Burial will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
