William A. Popadak

William Popadak, 78, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

He was born in 1948, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to Andrew and Helen Popadak.

Playing the piano was his passion from an early age.

William graduated from Sharon High School in 1966, going on to earn his bachelor's degree from Ball State University in 1970 and a Master's degree from Edinboro University. It was during his freshman year at Ball State that he met the love of his life, Mary. The two were married for 57 years.

William built a lasting career in education, teaching Media Studies for the Erie School District, where he trained generations of television cameramen throughout the Erie community. An entrepreneur at heart, he spent the 1980’s as a dealer of comic books at conventions, later turning his attention to antique toys and records.

William is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Popadak; his daughters, Jillian Grennan (Matt) and Stefanie Dunchuck (James); and his five grandchildren, Hunter Bych, Mason Bych, Grant Grennan, Jorie Grennan, and Franklin Grennan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Helen Popadak.

William will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his passion for teaching, and his lifelong love of collecting.

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., West Ridge 3801 W. 26th Street on Thursday, September 24th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Friday September 25th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Jude Church 2801 W. 6th Street, Erie PA 16505. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
