William C. McCarthy 7/2/1941-5/9/2026

“Billy the Kid” rode off into the sunset surrounded by family and friends on May 9th, 2026. Bill was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on July 2nd, 1941, to James and Catherine McCarthy and soon relocated to Youngstown, Ohio, where he spent his early years. “Sweet William” was the fifth of 13 children in a large, fun-loving Irish family. At a young age, Bill was diagnosed with rheumatic fever twice and was told by doctors that he would probably not live through his 20s. Through pure Irish stubbornness and determination, he defied the odds and lived to be 84. Bill was a person who never met a stranger. With a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face, he made everyone feel at ease in his presence. A natural-born salesman, he used these gifts throughout his 26-year career at Marine/PNC Bank and could always talk you into “just one more.” Bill retired in 2000 and spent this next chapter with his wife of 62 years, Marilyn McCarthy. Together, they traveled with family, spent winters in Fort Myers Beach, and never found a casino or social club they didn’t like. His loves in life were the beach, golfing, Cleveland sports, and occasional beverages. But his deepest love was for his family and friends, especially his son Chris, daughter-in-law Caitlynn, and grandsons Broegan and Declan, who brought him immense pride and joy.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Catherine; his siblings, Mike, Fwankey, Tommy, and Ileane; and several family members he will join at Heaven’s Best Beach Bar: Danny, Jimmy, Burdette, Eddy, and Ron.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Blasco); his son, Chris (Caitlynn); his grandsons, Broegan and Declan; his siblings, Marion, Ace, Jerry, Betty Lou, Kathy, Peggy-Do, Timmy, and Terry; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends, all of whom he loved dearly.

In Bill’s memory, raise a glass, take time to enjoy life, make someone laugh and smile.

A celebration of life will be held on July 2, 2026 at a time and place that will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc, West Ridge 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie PA 16506.
