William Robert Mackey, age 91, of Erie passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Sarah Reed Senior Living Center. He was born August 8, 1934, in Erie, the son of the late Arthur and Florence (Frank) Mackey.
William attended St. Andrew Grade School and Strong Vincent High School in Erie. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon returning to Erie, he worked for Marx Toys and General Telephone until he retired in 1991. He served on the boards of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the East Erie Turners.
William was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, playing cards, watching the Steelers, and spending time with his family. He was active in several horseshoe and bowling leagues across the city, and bowled two perfect 300 games.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. (Mioduszewski) Mackey, who died in 2020; his son, Timothy J. Mackey, who died in 2016, and his siblings Gerald Mackey, Dorothy Glynn, Sally Hammerbeck, James Mackey, Joanne Figurski, and Peg McCarthy.
William is survived by three sons, Paul Mackey and his wife Melissa of Westford, MA, Mark Mackey of Erie, and Patrick Mackey and Renee of Palestine, TX; seven grandchildren: Autumn, Amanda, Dalton, Shyla, William, Kathryn, and Connor; and great-grandson, Isaiah.
Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services Inc. Downtown, 602 West 10th St, on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Private burial will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
