Veletia Monique Childs was born on December 6, 1969, in Newark, NJ to Earnestine Childs and the late James Anderson Jr. II. On April 19, 2026, our beloved peacefully transitioned, at her home, cradled in the love of her family.

She was predeceased by her beloved son, Wesley Childs, whose memory she cherished deeply, her grandmother, Willie Mae Crawford, her aunts, Deloris Dawson and Vernice Crawford, her uncles, Lucius Childs Jr. and William B. Dudley, and her cousin, Brett Lynn Dawson. Each left an indelible mark on Veletia’s life, guiding her with their love and wisdom.

Veletia’s memory will be forever cherished by her surviving family: her mother, Earnestine, whose strength was her guiding light, her cherished children, Naja and Anthony, and daughter-in-law Jasmine, who were the center of her world. She was a doting grandmother (Nani) to Ayaad, Madison, Peyton, and Paige, who brought immense joy to her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Cassandra, Alecia, Kinia, James Jr. III, Kiesha, Jamal, Jaleel, Jabriel, Zenobia, and Jazen; her niece, Kaila, and nephews, Tyler and Khairi; aunts, Jacqueline, Laverne, and Annie, as well as a host of cousins that she adored. Her extended family, including Nathaniel, Mark, Barbara (La Khia, Ariana), Linda (Lauren, Anne), Felicia (Tyreke, Iman, Aalyiah, Tariq), Khadijah (Azir), Marcell, Rabir, and the Rosendary clan will carry her memory in their hearts.

Veletia graduated from Valisburg High School (Class of 1987) and Catherine Gibbs (1989). In 2021, she earned a B.S. in Business with honors from the University of Phoenix. She dedicated more than 25 years to Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey as a Data Analyst.

Veletia lived a life of devotion to her family, her work, and her community. She faced her battle with ovarian cancer with grace and courage, reflecting her enduring strength. She treasured her MGCC church family, whose prayers, love, and fellowship meant so much to her and carried her through every season.

Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with loved ones who went before her. Her love and legacy will remain with all who knew her.
