Timothy James “Grampy” Stanton, 70 of Erie, PA, passed away in his home on April 24th, 2024. Tim was born in Erie, PA on December 5, 1953 to Raymond W. Stanton and Hilda S. Taylor. A true Bay Rat, Tim regaled his family with stories of his youthful exploits in the Lower West Side. Tim may have graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1971, but he remained a Colonel through and through and could often be seen cheering for a variety of boys’ and girls’ teams.

After high school, Tim joined the US Navy, which allowed him to see the world. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA where met the love of his life. He married Karen L. Presgraves on December 4, 1975, in Newport News and moved back to Erie after the completion of his Navy service. Tim then enjoyed a long career as a CNC machinist, working at General Electric, RD&D, and Johnson Controls before retiring from Swagelok in 2015. 

Tim was a dedicated father, grandfather, and husband. His favorite activities included spending time with his children, grandchildren, and wife of 39 years. He also enjoyed fishing, riding his bike, barbecuing, fires in the backyard, painting and drawing, and taking care of his birds. He was an avid sports fan who enthusiastically supported the Erie Seahawks, Pittsburgh Pirates, and most of all, the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

Tim is survived by his son Timothy J. Stanton, Jr. and daughter-in-law Kelly A. Stanton of Darlington, PA; daughter Rhonda R. Souders and son-in-law Aaron W. Souders of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren Kalib M. Stanton, Addilay N. Stanton, and Madeleine R. Souders; Sisters Linda L. Spanggard and Jill I. Stanton, and brother Theodore J. Stanton, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, and brothers David J. Grieshaber and Raymond Stanton Jr. 

Tim’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at 1pm at Burton Quinn-Scott Funeral Home, 602 West 10th Street, Erie. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Boys & Girls Club of Erie, 1515 East Lake Road, Erie, PA, 16511.
