Thomas F. Higgins, age 82, of Erie died of a broken heart on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at UPMC Hamot following the passing of his wife Sheila Higgins on September 24, 2025.
Tom was born on February 5, 1943 in Erie the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Spiegel) Higgins. He was a 1961 graduate of East High School and served with the 1st Infantry Division during the Vietnam war.
He later worked in the maintenance department for the non-profit HANDS. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic church; VFW Post 470; American Legion Post 771, and the Elks Lodge 67. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sheila (Sullivan) Higgins; two sisters, Kathleen Stablein and Margaret (Peggy) Higgins and a brother, Joseph J. Higgins.
Tom is survived by two sons; Patrick J. Higgins of Daytona, FL and Michael T. Higgins and his wife Carla of Erie along with a daughter, Kelly Ann Higgins of Erie. He is the proud grandfather of Courtney Higgins, Collin VanBuskirk, Alexis LaBoda, and Anthony LaBoda. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and his best friend, Len Andrzejewski.
Tom’s family would like to thank the nurses at Hamot’s ICU for the wonderful care provided to their father.
Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services Inc., West Ridge, 3801 W.26th St. on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 130 E.4th St., Erie.
