Thomas Gardner

Thomas Gardner, age 75 of Girard, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 at the Erie VA Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Erie on July 4, 1947, a son of the late Vincent Gardner and Marie Niemic Gardner.

Tom graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1965 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He had worked for the United States Postal Service for 33 years, retiring as a manager in 2002.

Tom was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Girard; American Legion Posts 494 and 742. He belonged on bowling leagues at both Westway and Eastway Lanes.  Tom loved to exercise.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Gardner, Jr., brothers Martin and Nick Gardner; and brothers in law, Larry Darr, Nick Chiocco and Larnell Spencer.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Michelle MacDonald Gardner; their son, Christian Gardner of Girard; Brad Gardner and Heather (Dan) Scully and their mother, Joan Gardner, all of Erie.  He is further survived by his siblings, Wendy Darr, Gayle Chiocco, Vinnie Gardner, Cindy (Jeff) Heberlein and Kellie Gardner-Spencer; three grandchildren, Eli, Jake and Alyssa; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard on Thursday, October 20^th, from 2-4 and 6-8pm , and are invited to attend a prayer service there  on Friday at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at the St. John the Evangelist Church - New Location, 1001 Main Street E, Girard.

Burial will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors.
