Thomas Edward Chaffee

September 9, 1947 — March 8, 2024

Thomas Edward Chaffee, age 76, world traveler of Erie, Binghampton, NY, South Padre Island and Nueve Necaxa Mexico, passed away on Friday March 8, 2024 at LECOM Senior Living. He was born in Johnson City, NY on September 9, 1947, a son of the late John Frank and Marguerite Treat Chaffee.

Tom graduated from Chenango Valley Junior/Senior High School, class of 1965 and Broom County Technical College. He was a photographer for Herf Jones for many years. He traveled far and wide for this occupation. He eventually retired from Time Warner as a sales representative.

Tom was an avid world traveler and outdoor enthusiast. He loved to camp and go on adventures. He was an off grid explorer and enjoyed making new friends around the globe. Most recently, he had camped his way down to Mexico with his dear friend Mari Owen-Lawler. He loved to draw and never missed an opportunity to film or photograph any event. He found beauty in the most mundane of activities.

He is survived by his son Bryan Chaffee of Erie; daughter in law Tara Chaffee of Erie; five grandchildren Zachary Chaffee of Pittsburgh, Lily Reslink of Norfolk VA, Gaven Chaffee, Elsie Chaffee and Everett Chaffee, all of Erie. He is further survived by his brother David Chaffee, his sister in law Marian Starling, and their child Chris Chaffee all of Binghampton NY; his brother Donnie Chaffee of Binghampton, NY and his children Michelle Lehr of Windsor NY and Amber Meattey of Binghampton NY.

A small private service will be held with family and close friends March 23rd and another in Texas at a later date.
