Sylvia was the beloved wife of Joseph A. Rumberger, her husband of 49 years, whom she married, May 16, 1976. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised a loving family. She is survived by her children: Heather Marsowicz and husband Danny, Valarie Rumberger, Tammy Rumberger, Rachael Beougher and husband Justin, and Joe Rumberger and wife Meghan. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to Jeremiah, Leo, Stella, Tristen, Emilia, Tre, and Topher, who brought her endless joy; and her loving brother-in-law John who was always by her side. She is further survived by her sister, Anita Little and husband Marc Ferritta, with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank DeBello, and her grandparents, Gus and Sylvia Mochi.
Always by her side was her faithful dog, Gus, who provided her constant comfort and companionship never leaving her side, especially in her final days.
Sylvia was a proud graduate of Our Lady of Peace grade school, Villa Maria High School (Class of 1971), and Villa Maria College, where she earned her nursing degree. She devoted her life to caring for others, beginning her career at Saint Vincent Hospital as a critical care nurse and shift supervisor. She later worked for Consultants In Cardiology for 19 years and eventually shared her experience and passion as a nursing instructor at Mercyhurst North East.
Sylvia’s faith and family were the foundations of her life. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Peace Church, where she served her parish community with love and dedication, especially through organizing and leading the church’s well-loved spaghetti dinners.
She also gave her time generously to her children’s schools as a room mother and was deeply involved in the Cathedral Prep Football Boosters, where she ran the concession stand and was a joyful presence on the sidelines, always cheering for the team.
Sylvia’s legacy is one of compassion, strength, service, and love. She touched countless lives through her healing hands, her mentorship, and her vibrant presence in the community. Her laughter, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to her family will be remembered and cherished forever.
