Steve Gavin, 78, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 17, 2026. He was born on December 26, 1947, in Joliet, IL, to the late Archie and Bennie Mae Gavin.
Steve came from Bay Springs, Mississippi, to Erie, PA with his wife Mary and two stepdaughters. He worked at Presque Isle Plating for many years and was an excellent handyman who helped out family and friends. He loved spending time with family, telling stories about his young days, and his favorite thing to do was telling jokes just to make someone laugh. Steve always made friends along the way. He loved fishing and watching westerns, baseball, and other sports. He watched the horse races and went to the casino whenever he had a chance. One thing that will be missed is his cooking and he loved his blues music.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ella Gavin and stepdaughter Veronica D. Bridges; brothers Charles Gavin, Joe Gavin, and sister Gwendolyn Gavin; four uncles: Albert Clayton Jr, Ernest Clayton, Burnest Clayton, and Toy Clayton; and three aunties: Wilma Sims, Carrie Mae Gavin, and Nancy Clayton.
He is survived by his daughter, Wilma Marie Gavin; two sons, Kevin D. Martin and Stephen Lee Woodard; stepdaughter Mary E. Bridges; sister Carolyn Patrick and two brothers, John Gavin and Archie Gavin and his wife Betty. He leaves behind many grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
John 14:1-4 NLT: “Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going."
