Sharon Rositer McGhee, a smart and sensitive soul, passed into life on March 29, 2025, in Youngstown, OH. She was born in Erie, PA on May 15, 1963, daughter of Marilyn Martin Rositer and the late Dennis C. Rositer.
Sharon was a 1981 graduate of McDowell High School, attended Westminster College, and graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Psychology.
She was a lover of books, poetry, writing, intellectual banter, cooking family recipes, travel and learning about diverse cultures. Above all, she immersed herself in all genres of music and took pleasure in educating her sisters on the power of music to transform.
She played the flute in the Junior Philharmonic and was one of the original members of the DeAngelo School of Music Flute Choir. She also enjoyed playing in the Bell Choir at Luther Memorial Church.
Sharon served as a Direct Support Professional in Erie, Pittsburgh, and Clarion, providing empathetic and innovative care to her clients. Most importantly, she consistently advocated for the well-being of individuals who were unable to voice their own needs.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael McGhee, his children and grandchildren, her beloved children, Daniel Hackenberg (Megan Vanscoyoc) and Holly Hannon. She is also survived by her mother, Marilyn Rositer and her fiancé, Edward Hokaj, her sisters, Erin Rositer Jacob and Shelley Rositer, her aunt and uncle, Kathy and Hank Gier of Manhattan, KS, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St., on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 1 pm with the Rev. Jay Mitchell presiding and the Rev. Karen Parsh preaching.
Friends may greet the family in the church parlor from noon until the time of the service at 1:00 pm and again immediately following the service at a reception in Fellowship Hall. Inurnment at Laurel Hill Cemetery is private at the convenience of the family.
