Sarah “Sally” J. Mahoney passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at UPMC Hamot Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Erie, the daughter of the late Gordon and Elizabeth McCabe Mahoney.
Sally graduated from Sacred Heart grade school, Villa Maria Academy and attended Gannon College. She worked at EMTA for 35 years as the Assistant to the Controller. She loved to travel with her sister, Betsy, especially on cruises. Sally enjoyed baking and sharing her rolls and bread with her extended family.
Sally was a devout Catholic and attended mass daily. She had a special devotion to the Carmelite Sisters and St. Anthony. Sally was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Guild and Siebenbuerger Club and a former member of the Erie Maennerchor Club, Saint Marks Auxiliary and Woman’s Club of Erie.
Sally is survived by her nieces: Beth Palilla, Anne Causgrove, Kelly Metzgar, Sally Lichtenwalter, Mary Hanas, Maggie Gammon, and Suzzie Esper and nephews: John Watson, Tim Mahoney, James Mahoney, John Lichtenwalter and James Lichtenwalter, as well as multiple great- nieces and nephews and great- great- nieces and nephews.
Sally was preceded in death by her brother, James Mahoney (Mary Ann) and sisters, Mary Lichtenwalter (Fred), Peggy Watson (Jack), and Betsy Mahoney.

Sally had a beautiful smile, a warm heart and a quick wit. She will be sadly missed by all.
Friends are invited to call at St. Luke Catholic Church, 421 E. 38th St. on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at which time a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
