Rosemarie Cavallo Hinman Burke, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 21, 2026 at Brevillier Village Nursing Home.
Rose was born on November 20, 1933 in Syracuse, New York. She graduated from Most Holy Rosary High in 1951. In high school she met her first husband, Woodrow Hinman, and they were married later that same year. In 1963, the Hinman family moved to Huntsville, Alabama.
Rose and Woodrow had seven children; six of them were boys. Family was always very important for Rose. The family then moved to Ormond Beach, Florida before finally settling in Erie, Pa. in 1970.
Woodrow Hinman died in 1978 after being married to Rose for 27 years. Not long after his death, Rose went back to school and became certified as an LPN. She started working at Saint Vincent Hospital and later spent most of her nursing career at Bayfront Nephrology.
Rose met William Burke, and the two were married in 1983. They were married for 41 years before Bill died in 2024.
Rose had a beautiful singing voice and spent many years singing in the St. James choir. She also took up making crafts, and she sold items under her business name, Classy Crafts. She held many positions in the Erie Crafters Guild. Rose was also a master gardener. Her yard was always filled with the prettiest flowers. If she was famous for one thing, Rose made the best banana bread that you ever tasted, and it didn’t matter what kind of party she attended, you could always count on her bringing at least one loaf.
Rose was preceded in death by her husbands, Woodrow Hinman and William Burke, and by her daughter Barbara Freitas, as well as her brothers Thomas Cavallo, Donald Cavallo, and Robert Cavallo, and her sister Elizabeth Pizzuto.
She is survived by her six sons: Richard Hinman (Jane), Thomas Hinman (Quensita), John Hinman (Donna), David Hinman (Pamela), Scott Hinman (Michelle), and Brian Hinman. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and by her special friend Ginger Carlin.
The Hinman family would like to thank the nurses at Brevillier Village for the outstanding care Rose received before her passing.
Friends are invited to call on the family on Tuesday, April 28 from 10:00 am until the time of the service to celebrate Rose’s life at 12:00 pm at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services Wintergreen, located at 2532 Norcross Rd. Erie, Pa.
