Robert Alfred Schlaufman

Robert Alfred Schlaufman, (Bob and Bobbi) age 76 of Millcreek passed away peacefully at the Cleveland Clinic on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Born in Erie on December 1, 1949, Robert grew up surrounded by the love of his parents, Alfred and Lavina “Tootie” Dressler

Schlaufman, who shaped the steady, kind, and hardworking man he became.

Robert graduated from Academy High School in 1967 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Pennsylvania State University—a place that would become one of the great loves of his life. He began at Carlisle’s as a stock boy in the shoe department before moving into security, and later joined Smith Meter, where he worked from 1981 to 1986. In 1990, he stepped into banking as Vice President of PNC Bank (Marine Bank), serving until 2001.

In 2002, Robert brought his steady hand and financial expertise to the Erie County Convention Center Authority as Director of Finance & Administration, a role he held for a decade. He took great pride in helping bring the Bayfront Convention Center to life and was honored to have his name placed at the convention center as well as in the beer garden at UPMC Park—small but meaningful reminders of the impact he had on his community.

He loved playing golf, especially when he could share the course with his daughter, Andrea—his favorite golf partner. And for more than 50 years, Penn State football was woven into the rhythm of his life. As a devoted season ticket holder he cherished every trip to Beaver Stadium, every tailgate, every shared moment with family and friends. Penn State wasn’t just a team to him; it was tradition, connection, and home.

He gave generously his time and talents, serving on numerous boards and organizations throughout his career. His commitment to St. John’s Lutheran Church was unwavering, and he supported many of its committees with the same quiet dedication he brought to every part of his life. He was also a long time board of Director of Dufford Terrace Senior Living. Robert belonged to many clubs including the Shrine Club, the Zukor Club and the Siebenbuerger Club. He was also a member of Perry-Keystone Lodge No. 392 F. & A.M., Zem Zem Shrine Club and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Erie.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Bonnie (Onachila) Schlaufman, who cared for him with devotion and never left his side. He is also survived by his daughter, Andrea (Quint) Schlaufman, whom he adored, and his son in law, Nick of Erie. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember his steady presence and gentle humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Schlaufman.

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie, PA on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St., Erie, PA at 11:00 AM officiated by Pastor Ralph Mineo. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery, pending their reopening.
