Robert Edward “Butch” Miles, Sr., 80, of Erie, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Erie on March 8, 1946, he was the son of the late Stanley and Blanch (Stewart) Miles.

A 1964 graduate of Tech Memorial High School, Butch went on to dedicate over 50 years to his craft as a union electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 56. His hard work, expertise, and commitment to his trade left a lasting impression on both his colleagues and the community.

Known affectionately to his family as “Papa”, Butch was a committed do-it-yourselfer. There was rarely a project he couldn’t tackle or anything he couldn’t fix. A remarkably kind and gentle man whose quiet strength anchored those around him, he was a passionate person with a wide array of interests. For over 60 years, he was an unwavering fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, bleeding black and gold through every season. He also found great joy in the meticulous world of model trains and held a lifelong appreciation for classic cars. He spent many years enjoying the camaraderie of the bowling alley and following the high-speed excitement of local stock car racing. Though unknown to many, Butch was a uniquely talented artist – a quiet pursuit that perfectly reflected his patient and observant nature.

Above all else, Papa adored his family and was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He took immense pride in being a constant fixture in their lives, whether he was cheering from the sidelines at Alec’s football games, attending Madison’s dance recitals, or watching Riley play volleyball.

He was married to Barbara A. (Kubiak) Miles for 59 years, a partnership through which they raised their family and shared decades of life’s milestones. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Lisa Miles (Bill), Lori Miles Emerick (Richard), and Robert Miles (Amber); his brother, John Kaliszewski (Mary Alice); and his sister, Bridget Kaliszewski Watson. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Alec Emerick (Aly), Madison Miles (Caleb), and Riley Emerick; and his precious great-grandchildren, Joey McCloskey and Reagan Emerick.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Larry Kaliszewski, James Miles, and Robert J. Miles; his sisters, Juanita Reichel and Jean Lindey; and his loyal best friend and confidant, his lab, Clyde.

Butch’s kindness, gentle smile, and spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
