Robert E. Carney, Esq., age 82, of Bath, OH, died on April 4, 2026 at Cleveland Clinic. He was born in Erie, PA on June 23, 1943, a son of the late William J. and Jane Ward Carney.
Bob graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1961 and John Carroll University in 1965. In 1969 he was discharged from the Navy after serving as a Lieutenant Senior Grade Public Affairs Officer aboard the USS Essex. His pursuit of knowledge extended beyond his undergraduate years, earning an MBA from Kent State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He devoted many years to public and private sectors through a distinguished accounting career as a CPA, culminating in his retirement from the Defense Department (DFAS) of Cleveland, OH.
His dedication to lifelong learning was evident not only in his studies but also in his professional career and personal interests. Throughout his life, Bob was recognized as a walking encyclopedia, his curiosity and insight spanning countless subjects. Known for his wit and humor, he had the unique ability to approach conversations—even when playing devil's advocate – with lightness that endeared him to many. He was a caring and loving brother who saw goodness in all people.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew William John Carney.
Bob is survived by his siblings: William (Sharon Davenport) Carney of Erie, Jane Carney of Erie, Tim (Carol) Carney of Lapeer, MI, and Mary Pat (Gary) Froehlich of Erie; his nieces and nephews: Joshua (Rachel) Carney of Columbia, TN, Brian (Miyuki) Carney of Lake Orion, MI, Dan (Ali) Carney of Indianapolis, IN, Katie (Phil) Pisano, and Matthew (Megan) Froehlich both of Erie; several great nieces and nephews and a dear friend Sally Prentice of Akron, OH.
