Richard B. “Ricardo” Wettekin of Erie passed away peacefully after a short illness on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at AHN St. Vincent. He was born September 11, 1959 in Erie the son of the late Roger Wettekin and Charlotte Hosack.

Richard was a star track runner that held many records at Northwestern High School. He was an avid fisherman that loved boating, sunsets, lighthouses, and anything nautical.

Richard also had a green thumb that could make anything grow and bloom and was also very handy. He was always doing projects, fixing things, or working on cars. He loved music and at any time of the day or night you could walk into the house and music would be playing.

Despite many personal struggles he faced throughout his life, he had a heart of gold and would help anyone and everyone he could.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by the love of his life, Gayle L. “Gilligan” Wettekin who died in January of 2026.

He is survived by his children that he loved beyond words; Jacqueline Wettekin of Erie, Kyle (Carrie) Wettekin of Erie, Katie Cohick and children of KY. He always said they were his proudest accomplishments. He is the proud grandfather of Trace Nelson, Ava Wettekin and Concetta Mangini and the great-grandfather of Colton, Ellena and Annamarie Doray. Richard is the brother of Roger (Tammy) Wettekin, Brian, Chuck, and Stanly Rice, John Freebourn, Louise Fahlen (Al), Laurie Wettekin, Missy Morad (Robert), and Jennifer Mushrush (Patrick). He is the uncle of Jessica and Sara Wettekin, Jason Wettekin, and Alfred Fahlen along with many other nieces and nephews.

Richard will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on forever through all of us that knew and loved him. We seek comfort in knowing that Gilligan and Ricardo are reunited again.

In lieu of flowers or services, a private celebration of their lives and spreading of his and Gayle’s ashes will take place. Please contact Jacqueline or Kyle for details.
