Richard “Rick” G. Hammar, age 66, of Erie, devoted husband, father, and papa, passed away suddenly on Thursday October 5, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital.
Rick was born in Erie on March 20, 1957, a son to the late Norma Webb and Robert Hammar.
He graduated from Academy High School. Then went on to serve in the US Navy. He retired from Gannon University after 20 plus years of service.
Rick enjoyed his family, he was a very proud father and papa (Apap), fishing with friends, and was an avid collector of guns, gold, and silver. He could always be seen with a hand full of cough drops and a cup of coffee. Rick also proudly celebrated 28 years of sobriety. He had a passion for motorcycles and safety on bikes. He worked briefly as a motorcycle safety coach. He enjoyed watching the Steelers and Buckeyes while making fun of some of his sons for being Browns’ fans. If you had the honor of knowing Rick, you loved him. Laughter always filled the room and his jokes were off color yet you couldn’t help but to laugh with him.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Bridget; Stepfather, Bill Webb; and brother-in-law, Al Will.
Richard is survived by his five sons, Patrick Connaroe and his wife Kristen, Kevin Connaroe and his fiancé Kaila, Daniel Connaroe and his wife Kelly, Rick Hammar and his wife Brittany, and Tony Cordovano and his wife Chrissi; his siblings; Bob (Janice) Hammar and Diane Will; his grandchildren, Logan, Lillie, Conner, Aubrie, Aubriana, Giana, and Brooklyn. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
