Richard E. Brooks

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard E. Brooks, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend. He departed this life on August 14, 2025, at UPMC Hamot Hospital following a brief illness.

Born on February 13, 1952, in Union City, Pennsylvania, Richard was the eldest son of the late Eugene F. and Patricia L. (Padgett) Brooks. After graduating from Northwestern High School, he worked at the Barber Center, where he took on various roles, including housekeeping and lawn care. His laughter was truly infectious, and he had a remarkable talent for bringing smiles to others with his jokes. Richard’s warmth and affection extended to everyone, and he found great joy in holding babies.

A dedicated dairy farmer, Richard worked diligently at the Brooks and Kruse Dairy Farms. His love for his cows was clear to anyone who knew him. He also took pride in participating in bowling events with the Special Olympics.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol (Kruse) Brooks, with whom he shared 16 wonderful years, as well as his father-in-law, Ed Kruse.

He is survived by his siblings: Cathy Hudacky (Jim), Mary McDonald (Guy), Alice Goodwill (Galen), Tom Brooks, Patty Drury (Mike), Eddy Kruse (Sally), Betsy Dworek (Chris), and Terry Williams (Art). He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Gretchen Kruse; aunt, Carol Brooks; uncle, Pastor G. David Brooks (Betty); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Burton Funeral Home, located at 525 Main Street East, Girard, on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM until the service begins at 7:00 PM. Burial will be private.

Richard will be deeply missed, but his laughter and love will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
