Richard O. Boyd, 83, of Erie, died after a long illness on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.
Born in Erie on September 2, 1932, a son of the late Orin Boyd and Helen Barnett Boyd.
He was a 1950 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked as a crew chief at National Fuel Gas for 33 years. He was a member of the YMCA for 50 years where he played handball and basketball. He also played on the NFG softball team. He loved sports and was a great fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He loved playing with his grandchildren, especially playing ball and taking them out for supper. A favorite pastime was grilling at the parks and the beach.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; and his four siblings, Alfreda, Vivian, George and Kenneth Boyd.
Richard is survived by his wife Donna Vogt Boyd; two sons, Richard, Jr. and wife Kelly of Erie, and Robert and wife Melanie of Charlotte, NC; a daughter in law, Michelle Lewis of Erie; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Friends may call at the Burton West Lake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
