Peggy Jean Spicher, 86, moved on to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on October 6 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Grove City, PA to James and Marion (Phipps) Brown. She was a 1958 graduate of Grove City High School and married the love of her life, Robert Spicher in 1959.

Peggy and Robert resided in Erie for the past 61 years. She was a Millcreek Township School District employee for over 30 years, serving in a variety of positions. She retired in 2003 as the secretary to the principal at Westlake Middle School. She had been an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church since moving to Erie. Peggy taught Sunday School, tended the church gardens, was an original member of the sewing group and loved singing in the church choir.

In her spare time Peggy enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, square dancing with the Squaws and Pa’s square dance group, doing jigsaw puzzles, and chasing the little white ball around the golf course. Peggy was a member of the Presque Isle Garden Club, Presque Isle Chorale and volunteered at Asbury Woods. She and Bob were also avid travelers, having been on several trips to Branson, Missouri and points west.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Doris Rayburg and Eve Delaney. Survivors include her husband, Bob, two sons, Curt Spicher (Maria) and Ken Spicher (Cindy), one sister, Barb Sopher, 4 grandchildren, Andrew Spicher, Abby Belack (Matt), Joshua Spicher and Matthew Spicher, and two great-grandchildren, Noah Belack and Brooks Belack.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at UPMC Hospice for their outstanding care.
