Pastor Emeritus Willie A. Harris, a faithful servant of the Lord and beloved community leader, peacefully entered his eternal rest on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the age of 90 years and 6 months. Surrounded by his loving family, he transitioned from this life with the same grace, strength, and unwavering faith that defined his journey.
Born on November 20, 1934, in Wesleyville, Pennsylvania, to the late Willie Mae Curlett and Harry Jordan, Pastor Harris was a man of many talents and deep convictions. A proud graduate of Strong Vincent High School, he was active in wrestling, track and field, waterskiing, and swimming. Beyond athletics, he had a profound love for music. As a long-time member of a local band, he played multiple instruments, including the baritone saxophone, sharing his gift of music wherever he went.
After serving in the U.S. National Guard, Pastor Harris began his career at GTE as a janitor and, through perseverance and diligence, advanced to the role of lineman, ultimately serving as a Switch Room Supervisor with both GTE and Verizon. His dedicated work ethic spanned over three decades of service.
His life was anchored in a deep faith in Jesus Christ. A devoted member of Holy Trinity Church, he began his spiritual service as a deacon, faithfully volunteering and ministering to those in need. Called to greater responsibility under the leadership of Elder Hairston, he became an Assistant Pastor and later served as Superintendent of the Erie District of Pennsylvania. His roles included Sunday School Teacher, Assistant Pastor of Holy Trinity COGIC, Pastor of Holy Trinity COGIC (31 years, Emeritus), and Erie District Superintendent COGIC (8 years, Emeritus).
Pastor Harris was not only a shepherd to his congregation but a loving and devoted father who led by example. His children remember him as a strong, nurturing role model—a man whose life reflected integrity, humility, and unconditional love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy Harris and Madeline Harris; his son William “Ticky” Harris (Heddie); and his wives Shirley Harris and Mother Zula Harris and step son Ivan Fleming.
He leaves to cherish him in memory, his devoted wife of 12 years, Betty Harris; his children: Deborah Harris, Mary McLendon, Steven Harris (Connie), Sandra Keys (Charles), Deidre Harris-McLaurin (Walter), and Edward Paul Harris and his step children, Tracy Fleming and Patrick Fleming. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Kayla and Grace, who held a special place in his heart and always brought a joyful smile to his face.
A special thank you is extended to his devoted niece, Candace Battles, and Trelane Sherod. The family also deeply appreciates the support and prayers from dear friends such as Linda Meyers, Rodney Walker, Robert Arrington, Marcia Butler, Renee Myers, and many others. A heartfelt thank you to Pastor Aubrey and Wanda Favors for their enduring love and spiritual support.
