Wallace Ardery

February 15, 1922 — February 4, 2023

Wallace “Wally” Ralston Ardery, age 100, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023. He was born February 15,1922, the son of the late Wayne and Ruth (Bloomfield) Ardery.

Wally was an Army veteran of WW II  having served in the D-Day invasion where he landed on Utah Beach on the third day. Upon his discharge from the army, he married his beloved wife, Aurelia “Irish” Sullivan in 1946. During their 66 years of marriage, they raised two daughters, Gail Ardery of Erie and Sheila Ardery of Newton, MA. Wally converted to Catholicism early in the marriage and he lived his faith in service to friends, family, and his parish.

Wally and Irish had an active social life. They participated in St. Ann’s parish activities while their daughters attended school there and later joined St. Patrick’s, Irish’s childhood parish, and volunteered for many parish events. They were members of the Irish Cultural Society, East Erie Turners, and the Siebenbuerger club. They loved to dance and could be found on Friday nights at the East Erie Turners until the club closed.

Following the war, Wally joined the Union of Carpenters and Joiners and worked for E.E. Austin for many decades, eventually becoming a construction supervisor. He was a talented carpenter and loved to improve his home and cottages at Kelso Beach. It was there that they spent their summers while wintering for 30 years in Largo, FL. Upon Wally’s retirement, he and Irish bought into a community in Largo, FL called the Fairway Village. It was there that Wally took up golf and competitive shuffleboard while they waited out Erie winters. In Largo, they joined the Catholic church and Wally volunteered to care for the Church’s orange grove.

Wally’s beloved wife Irish died in 2013. He was also preceded by a sister, Louise McGill and a brother, James Ardery.

His daughters would like to thank the staff at Sarah Reed Senior Living Center for their wonderful care during his stay with them.
