Virginia Kurutz

Virginia M. Woodard Kurutz, 99, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at her home in Harborcreek.

She was born on October 29, 1921, in Erie, Pa., the daughter of the late Carl and Selma (Swanson) Woodard. Virginia was a graduate of the former Academy High School. She was employed by Hammermill Paper Co., The Manor Home and at Marx Toys. Virginia was a member of the Sunflower Club and bowled in their Monday Night Bowling League for years. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing her own clothes and home décor. She was a former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph E. Kurutz whom she married August 5, 1950, and who died September 3rd, 2001. Also, by her four brothers, George, Robert, Charles and Sheldon Woodard and three sisters, Louella Post, Jean Woodard, and Mildred Kingen; a grandson, David J. de la Rosa; and a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Kurutz.

Survivors include her two sons, David J. Kurutz and wife Rosemary of Harborcreek with whom she resided and Michael J. Kurutz of Erie; two grandchildren, Laurie J. Kurutz Cruz and husband Tony of Virginia Beach, VA and Lisa D. Kurutz Skrekla of Erie; a granddaughter-in-law, Allie de la Rosa of Coto de Caza, CA; seven great-grandchildren, Briana Kurutz, Anthony, Alex and Andy Cruz, and Atticus, Olive and Ireland de la Rosa; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family gives special thanks to her caregivers; Nina, Margie, Lisa and Missy for the loving care and assistance they have provided Virginia with over this past year.

Family and friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, Erie, PA 16510 on Sunday August 29, 2021 from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service there at 6:30 p.m. The Reverend Scott Jabo will officiate.

Burial will be at 11 am Monday, August 30th, 2021, at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
