Theresa Baniszewski

Theresa (Marino) Baniszewski, age 96, of Erie, passed away at Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Center on Saturday, August 21, 2021.

She was born in Cerisano, Province of Cosenza, Italy on October 8, 1924, the daughter of the late Frank and Caroline Rubino Marino.  Theresa immigrated to the United States in April 1935.  She attended Columbus School and Roosevelt Jr. High.

She worked at Corsi’s Market for several years and was later employed at Klein Plating Works.  Theresa was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s RC Church where she was a member of the Sodality, Rosary Altar Society, and served as the chairwoman of the cookie booth at the Festival for over 20 years.  She loved spending time with her family.  No matter the occasion, she enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends; and always had the coffee pot on.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Baniszewski whom she married on April 18, 1948 and who passed away on January 14, 1978; her friend of 75 years, Mary M. Cirino; two sisters, Mary Marino and Genny Bilotti and her brother, Cyril (Jess) Marino.

Theresa is survived by her children and their spouses, Debby Raina (Sunil) of Granite Falls, NC and Robert Baniszewski (Mary Jo Leone) of Manchester, CT; three grandchildren, Megan, Ryan and Mandy Baniszewski.  She was Aunt Theresa to five generations of nieces and nephews.  She also leaves behind her dear friend of over 70 years, Palmina Cirino and her daughters, Mary, Sis, Rose and their families.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s/Nightingale for the excellent care Theresa received.

Friends may call at the Quinn Funeral Home, W. 9^th & Liberty. St., on Friday from 6:00 -8:00 pm.  Further visiting on Saturday at St. Paul’s RC Church, 1617 Walnut St., from 9:00 AM until time of a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
