Roberta "Bobbie" Lawrence

Roberta “Bobbie” Shaffer Edwards Brooker Lawrence, age 90, formerly of Lake City, passed away in Ohio on Saturday May 13, 2023. She was born in Erie, PA on November 24, 1932. She graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1950 as valedictorian, and from Zion Bible Institute in 1953. Bobbie retired in 1998 as controller from PHB Die Casting after 29 years of service. She and LeRoy Lawrence, husband of 31 years, spent 12 years camping and traveling to 49 states and Canada, spending winters enjoying family and friends in the Florida sunshine.  She was a member of the Federated Church in East Springfield, PA and enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family. One of the highlights was the annual potluck dinner and music sing along “Backyard Jam” she and Leroy hosted for years which she continued for nearly a decade after Leroy’s passing in his honor.

Bobbie was the eldest of 6 siblings and the anchor of the family.  She demonstrated her love and devotion to her family and friends through her kind and thoughtful heart. She was always there to listen and encourage. Her character, integrity and Christian values were a guiding force for her and her family. She set the standard and led by example.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Watkin Shaffer, and Blanche Luella Vorse, her first husband James Edwards in 1956 and husband, LeRoy David Lawrence in 2012. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald Shaffer, her sister, Ruth Shaffer Wagner, her sister-in-law, Patricia Godfrey Shaffer, stepdaughter, Tammy Reichert and stepsons Brian Lawrence and Edward Lawrence.   

Bobbie is survived by her brothers David Shaffer, John Shaffer, and Larry (Elaine) Shaffer, her brother’s wife, Carol Cook Shaffer, and her sister’s husband, William Wagner. Her children are Brian (Teresa) Brooker, Kathleen (Stanley) McCormick, and Craig (Barbara) Brooker, also Scott Reichert, Robert (Sue) Lawrence, Stacy Lawrence, and Russell (Hilda) Lawrence.  There are 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by ex-husband Robert Brooker.

Friends are invited to call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street, Girard PA, on Friday May 19 from 3pm to 6pm and may attend the memorial service there on Saturday May 20 at 10am with Pastor Ed Huntley officiating. Burial will be private at Erie County Memorial Gardens.

Bobbie’s unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was the foundation of her strength and resilience throughout her life. She will be greatly missed.
