Robert E. Held - Condolences
Peggy, Ann,Tom,Mark and Mary Margaret, thinking of you all with love and sympathy at this sad time in your lives. Bill always called your dad Bobby! He is probably the only one who got away with it. We are all so blessed to have been raised in a wonderful neighborhood with parents who taught us love and friendship. What wonderful memories you have to help comfort you. May god bless and keep you in his care. Special hug to mother Held. Bill and Mary(Ulrich) Drabina

Dear Tom, I offer my prayerful condolences to you and your mother and all your family on the death of your father. He served his country in dangerous missions as a Green Beret; appropriately, "Held" in German means "hero". I'm sure he was that to all your family too. He was blessed to spend 64 years with your mother. In Greek "Margaret" means "pearl", and he found a "pearl of great price". On this feast of Christ the King we think of Jesus as the humble Servant-Leader. It seems your father had that approach at Erie Insurance. He died at Sunrise McCandless nursing home; may God in His mercy take him into eternal sunrise and light and peace. "Robert" in German means "bright fame". May your father rest in the Lord's hands, and may God comfort all of you. (You may remember me as your freshman theology teacher at Cathedral Prep.) Fr. Dan Kresinski
I was one of those (former) Erie Insurance employees who was inspired by Bob Held’s modest leadership style. Looking back on the years of being associated with Bob, it occurs to me that I admired him most for directness that was accompanied by a touch of humor. I mean this in the kindest of ways: Bob always listened while you argued a proposed business solution but he also looked for unexpected ways to bring good-natured levity to the business of insurance. I remember seeing Bob at retiree functions and thinking that I should tell him how I appreciated his responsible sense of fun in the workplace. I don’t think it’s too late for me to do so.
