Michael Wassink

Michael J. Wassink, age 48, of Fairview, passed away unexpectedly on Monday August 2, 2021 at his residence.

He was born in Erie on October 28, 1972, the son of Jim Wassink and Susan Hetz.

He graduated from Fairview High School in 1990, then went on to attend Slippery Rock University and graduated from Mercyhurst University with a degree in Horticulture and Sports Management.  He worked at his family owned business, Fairview Evergreen Nursery his whole life.  He played football, baseball and basketball through school and enjoyed bowling with many leagues and belonged to the 800 Club with many 300 games.  He also played in golf and cornhole tournaments.  He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.  He loved Christmas time and enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed by all who knew him.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Neil and Josie Hetz; Dick and Cleo Wassink; and step father, Almon “Butch” Peterson.

He is survived by his parents, Susan Hetz; Jim Wassink and Nancy White; his aunts and uncles, Richard and Judy Hetz, Pam and Merlin Lawrence, Kaye and Thomas Mclaren, Bob and Judy Wilson, Gary and Kathy Wassink;  his step siblings, Jeff, Mitch, Tim, and Eric and their families; as well as many cousins and many good friends.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, in Girard, on Friday from 2:00pm -4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm and may attend services there on Saturday at 1:00pm with Rev. Charles Cammarata officiating.

Memorials may be made to the charities of one’s choice.

Rest in peace Michael. God gave us all “you”. We all loved you so much with your compassion and love and giving.  You will forever be in our hearts.
