Maureen Callahan

Maureen Callahan, age 65, of Erie and formerly of Le Roy, NY, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West.

Maureen was born on August 12, 1948 in Lockport, NY, to the late George and Margaret (Dockery) Hoenig.

She graduated from DeSales High School in Lockport and attended Villa Maria College in Erie earning a degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Le Roy, NY.

She loved visiting with her friends and spending time with her grandchildren, Justin, Matthew, Charlie and Christopher and her honorary grandchildren, Carley and Jen and Michael Mitchell.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 40 years, Dan (Torch) and her brother, George Hoenig.

She is survived by her children: Courtney (Chris Ames) Tirak of Erie PA, Megan (Kurt) Richter of Lake City PA, and Daniel Callahan Jr of Syracuse, NY; and her brother John (Maura) Hoenig, her grandchildren and many close friends and caregivers.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the chapel at Pleasant Ridge Manor West, 8300 Ridge Rd., Girard, PA 16417 with Msgr. Smith officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Le Roy, NY at a future date. Memorials may be made to the Erie County Diabetes Association, 1128 State St, Erie, PA 16501.
