Matthew Arndt

August 20, 1958 — November 11, 2014

Matthew R. Arndt, age 56, of East Springfield, passed away November 11, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family. Matt was a longtime resident of Erie, PA before moving to East Springfield.

He was born on August 20, 1958, son of James Arndt and the late Jeanette Kerr Arndt. He graduated from Academy High School in 1976 and Erie County Technical School in 1978. He was a lifetime member of the Sunflower Club serving on the Board of Directors and as Vice President.

Along with his father, Matt is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years Dianne Arndt and children James Arndt(Jennifer) of Erie, Jason Arndt(Kate) of MD, and Meghan Dalaba(Jon) of Erie. Also surviving are four grandchildren whom he cherished; Jayden, Aliyah, Mackenzi, and Ida Ailene and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

In 2009 he became “Assistant to the Assistant to the Regional Manager” at Dunder Mifflin. He was also an avid Cleveland Browns fan (which probably explains all of the heart attacks). He enjoyed rides around Presque Isle, sitting on the porch with his children watching thunderstorms, and taking his buddy and three princesses (his grandchildren) for rides on ‘The Mule’

At Matt’s request the calling hours and service is casual attire, Cleveland Browns apparel preferred. Anyone wearing Steelers apparel will be asked by his family to “Take a Hike Mike”

Matt suffered from Alport Syndrome and because of the generosity of three other families he survived three kidney transplants. His family asks that everyone honor him by becoming an organ donor.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26 St. (at Powell Ave.) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and are invited to the service there on Saturday at 10 am. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family in care of Burton Westlake Funeral Home.
