March 15, 1933 — December 30, 2017

Joseph M. "Joe" Woycheck, age 84, of Fairview, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born in Erie on March 15, 1933, a son of the late Andrew and Sadie Hattala Woycheck.

Joe graduated from Academy High School in Erie and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, serving at the White Sands Proving Ground recording rocket sled and missile tests for the base radio station.

After attending the University of New Mexico and the Erie Business Center he worked at Copes-Vulcan in Lake City for more than 30 years, retiring as the Director of Information Systems. He also served as president of Erie Compros and Woycheck Associates, mentoring many Penn State Behrend interns as they started their technology careers.

As a member of the Fairview American Legion Post # 742 for over 20 years, Joe enjoyed their social events and camaraderie. While an avid golfer, he was truly at home on the water, where he enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Erie, forever known as “Hey Joe.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Koman Woycheck in 1971; and by two sisters, Dorothy Zawodnik and Mary Ann Bufalari.

Joe is survived by his companion, Jean Smith, with whom he enjoyed a good dance; three sons, Joseph M. Woycheck Jr., of Erie, Robert S. McDonald of Campbell River, British Columbia, and Michael A. Woycheck and his wife Meghann of Pittsburgh; a beloved granddaughter, Madden Lillian Woycheck of Pittsburgh; a brother, Frank Woycheck and his wife Phyllis of Mooresville, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. (at Powell Ave.) on Wednesday, Jan. 3, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and are invited to a service there on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m.
