John Spencer Tibbitts, aged 79, of Erie, PA, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at Hamot UPMC Hospital.
He was born in Bradford, PA on May 3, 1943, son of the late Harold and Mildred (Polley) Tibbitts.
He served in the US Navy, aboard the USS Antietam and USS Hancock, during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for over 40 years at GE Locomotive in Erie, PA. He was a member of the Erie Jaycee's, sang with a barbershop quartet, and was a member of Toastmasters International – Eriez Club. He loved serving his community and was an avid volunteer, including helping to serve dinners to the homeless at Dominick's Diner for Thanksgiving. His hobbies included photography, astronomy, gardening, and woodworking. He was a nature enthusiast, and was known as being caring, compassionate and giving.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lois Tibbitts; his two daughters, Sandra (Tibbitts) MacKenzie (husband, James) of Manassas Park, VA and Carol Tibbitts of Asheville, NC; his sister Susan (Tibbitts) Conover (husband, Robert) of New Haven, CT; and two grandchildren, Cayce Burch of Greensboro, NC, and Yssabel Gernandt of Leicester, NC.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc., Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Rd., Erie 16510.
