Hulda Groenendaal

Hulda Groenendaal, age 76, of Fredericksburg, VA passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

She was born in Iceland on August 24, 1946, a daughter of Oskar Jonsson and Klara Guthjonsdottir.

Hulda enjoyed working at the Occoquan Antique Shop in Woodbridge Virginia and was an avid collector of antique furniture. She also loved gardening and knitting. She would knit ornate sweaters and other items that she often gave as gifts.

She and her husband Kirk enjoyed racing sailboats at the Erie Yacht Club and scuba diving. She was a member of St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church in Virginia and a former member of St. Boniface Church in Erie, PA.  She was also a member of the Commodore Perry Yacht Club.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mike Turk and 4 brothers.

She is survived by her husband of  24 years, Kirk Groenendaal, five children, Fanney Turk of Erie, PA, Jeffrey S Maxwell of Florida, Heidi  M (Lee) Ehrhart of Spartansburg PA; Daniel K. Groenendaal and his wife Julie of Phoenix, AZ and Kelly M. Groenendaal of Greenville, SC, eleven grandchildren, Mike and Nicholas Polaski of Erie, PA, Haley and Sam Maxwell of Erie PA, Laban and Levi of Spartansburg PA, Luke and Mason Groenendaal of Phoenix, AZ, Cassidy ( spouse Aileen Ma) and Jacob Groenendaal of Rockhill, SC, and Alicia DeAsis (Miguel) of Orlando Fla.; a brother-in-law, Jeff “Becky” Groenendaal; a sister-in-law, Missy Groenendaal; mother-in-law Bee Groenendaal and several nephews and nieces of Erie PA – and  4 sisters and  2  brothers all of Iceland.

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, on Saturday, April 1^st, 2023 from 10 a.m. until the time of service there at 1 p.m. with Father Marc Stockton officiating.

Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
