Harry Aldrich

March 27, 1933 — January 3, 2016

Harry J. (“Skip”) Aldrich, age 82, of Erie died unexpectedly, Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Saint Vincent Hospital.

Born in Buffalo, NY on March 27, 1933 son of the late Harry J. and Mae Norris McNamee Aldrich.

Harry graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1960 and earned a Master’s of Education Degree from St. Lawrence University in 1964, and did additional course work at State University of New York at Fredonia.

Harry was an educator for over 30 years. Harry was a teacher and a guidance counselor at Arkport High School in Arkport, NY and a high school principal at Seneca High School, Greene Township and Turkeyfoot Valley High School. Harry did volunteer work, which he took very seriously, with the International Institute, the VA Hospital, and the American Red Cross. He also taught himself how to play the banjo and started his own band - the Parade Street Dixie Land Jazz Band.

Harry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn, a son, Thomas Aldrich and his wife Jayne, of Westcliffe, CO, a son Robert Aldrich and his wife Cathy from Chantilly, VA, a daughter, Linda Ames and her husband David, of Economy Borough, PA. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many special relatives and friends.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 602 West 10th Street, Erie, Pa.16502 on Tuesday from 2:00 pm till 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm till 9:00 p.m. Additional calling will be at New Hope Presbyterian Church 5440 Washington Avenue, Erie, PA 16509 on Wednesday from 9:30 am until the time of services at 11a.m with the Reverend Charles McClung officiating. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in North Tonawanda, NY at 11:00 am Thursday Janaury 7th. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, 4961 Pittsburgh Ave., Erie, Pa. 16509.
