George W. Tanner, Jr.
George W. Tanner, Jr. age 52 of Millcreek, PA passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, unexpectedly at his residence.
George was born in Erie, PA on November 24, 1970, the son of Beatrice C. Tanner and the late George W. Tanner, Sr.
George graduated from North East High School in 1988 and soon after enlisted in the United States Army. He fought in Operation Just Cause in Panama. He served his country proudly. After leaving the Army, he was employed by the State of PA. He was also a huge advocate for veterans. He created several programs to assist veterans in their time of need.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #470, where he served as Post Commander, Quarter Master, Service Officer and Adjunct. He was also a member of the Masons Lake Erie Lodge #347 F. & A.M. George was always there to offer a helping hand. He will be sadly missed. George was the most selfless man you could meet and touched the lives of friends, family and strangers alike. A man not soon to be forgotten. He enjoyed fishing and was a huge presence on the local music scene. He was a drummer and vocalist. He was a member of Steppin’ Pappy, Spades and Logan B and The Dirty Leaf.
George was a loving, devoted father and husband. He and his wife loved to travel and he enjoyed his time spent with his boys playing video games.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie (Shertzer) Tanner; 2 sons, George W. Tanner, III and Jonah D. Tanner; his mother, Beatrice C. Tanner; brother, James E. Tanner and many friends he considered family.
There will be a Celebration of Life to take place on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the VFW Post #470, located at 1808 W. 26th St., Erie, PA.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veterans Miracle Center or any local veterans Program.
Arrangements are under the care of the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, 3801 W. 26th Street.
