F. Joan Wohlgemuth

F. Joan Wohlgemuth, age 94, of Lake City, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Pleasant Ridge Manor. 

She was born on October 7, 1928, in New Castle, PA, a daughter of the late John Albert and Bernice Frances McConnell Chapin.  Joan graduated from New Castle High School, Grove City College, and Penn State with her master’s degree in music education.  She taught music at Laurel School District in New Castle.  Joan was a choir director at both Eastbrook United Methodist Church in New Castle and Fairview United Methodist Church where she also was a member of the bell choir and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Elk Creek Grange #997, the Pennsylvania State Grange and the Pomona Grange # 4 where she was both a lecturer and pianist. 

Joan moved to Lake City with her husband Dick where they operated Wohlgemuth Florist. She later was employed with Moore Research and More Than a Memory in Fairview up until the time of her death. An avid reader, she also enjoyed gardening, playing games and crafts.

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband, Richard L. Wohlgemuth, in 1993.  She is survived by several cousins, Richard Ballantine, Peg Metz, Patty Northcott, Evelyn Clark and Maxine Wilson.  She was ‘adopted’ by Dave and Connie Walker and Ruth Pertl and their families.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, Inc., 525 Main St. East, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday, March 8, at Fairview United Methodist Church, 4601 Avonia Road, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:30 P.M. Committal service will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
