Esther Nielsen

Esther Nielsen age 100, of Erie died Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center.

She was born in Greenville PA, daughter of Alma and Orvil McCartney.

Mrs. Nielsen graduated from General McLane High School and received a business degree from Erie Business College. After graduating, she was an employee of General Telephone’s accounting dept and later an employee of Halle Bros. department store’s office staff.

In later years she was a secretary for Jarrett and Furgason’s Real Estate. While there she obtained her Real Estate license and sold real estate in the Erie and Millcreek area.

She was a member of Girard Presbyterian Church since 1958 where she taught Sunday School, became a deacon and served as financial secretary for several years. She was active in many church activities.

Esther was an Erie County Koinonia member No. 27. She was a member of Girard Garden Club where she served as Vice President for several years.

Her hobbies were reading, counted cross-stitch, collecting and selling antiques, collecting miniatures and making light boxes of a country store and Amish rooms from the miniatures.

Esther and her husband loved to travel and entertain their many friends in the home they designed and loved. They were a very devoted couple and loved life.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Nielsen in 1993, and is survived by a beloved son, David of Atlanta, a brother-in-law John Miller of Newark DL and several very special nieces and nephew.

Friends may call at the Girard Presbyterian Church, 260 Main St. Girard on Wednesday March 24^th from 10am until the time of service at 11am. with Rev Nicola Vitiello officiating. Burial to follow in Girard Cemetery.
