Emery Yeager

March 14, 1932 — August 12, 2022

Emery J. Yeager, age 90, of Erie, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital.

He was born in Erie on March 14, 1932 a son of the late Emeric and Elizabeth Csernyicky Yeager.

Emery was a devout Catholic and deeply spiritual person, serving as an altar boy at St. Julia’s church, graduating from Cathedral Preparatory School and later sharing his musical talent as a guitarist for church choirs including St. Jude’s. Emery also had a love for open water which began when he competed in power boat racing as a teenager on the boat he built named “Little Angel” and continued with his service in the U.S. Navy. His first deployment was to duty on the Rhine River Patrol. He finished his naval duty on U.S.S. Tanner, U.S. Navy Geodetic Survey. After his tours of duty, he studied at Penn State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering. Emery had an amazing acuity particularly for design detail which served him well as a designer, inspector, and architectural engineering. Emery oversaw the construction of many buildings and facilities in Erie which we all benefit from including our local hospitals, schools, parking lots, nursing homes, condos and U.S. Coast Guard facilities and research stations including one located in antarctica. We will miss Emery’s intellectual curiosity, his dry sense of humor, his generosity of spirit.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Yeager, and a sister, Mary Ann LaFlamme. He is survived by two brothers, Earl T. (Stephanie) Yeager of OH and Edward A. Yeager of FL, a sister, Elizabeth “Irene” Davino and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at St. Julia Church, 638 Roslyn Avenue, on Saturday August 20, 2022 from 10 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.

Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, PA.

Memorials may be made to St. Julia’s church which Emery’s father, Emeric Yeager, and mother, Elizabeth Csernicky, were founding members of along with his mother’s classmate Father Purcell.
