David Bliley

October 26, 1939 — July 15, 2021

David Mead Bliley

David Mead Bliley passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the age of 81.  Born in Erie on October 26, 1939, he was the son of the late Frank Dawson Bliley and Isabelle Rosenberg Bliley Kaiser and stepson of the late Lawrence F. Kaiser.

After attending McDowell High School, David went on to graduate from Mercersburg Academy in 1958, a school which profoundly influenced his life and he held close to his heart. He continued his education at Lycoming College, earning a bachelor’s degree in business in 1962. David was a loyal Lycoming alumnus and a life member of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity.

David worked his entire life at Bliley Electric Company (now Bliley Technologies), a business founded by his father, F. Dawson Bliley. After having various summer jobs during high school and college, he began a career in sales in 1962. In 1977, he was named Vice President of Marketing. He held this position until his retirement in 1998.

In his youth, family trips introduced David to the West, Colorado, and Rocky Mountain National Park. He loved hiking in the mountains all his life and was proud to attend the 100th Anniversary of Rocky Mountain National Park with his family in 2015. Locally, he often visited the beach and Presque Isle State Park. David instilled his love of nature in his children and grandchildren.

Music was a big part of David’s life, especially Rock ‘n Roll and Doo Wop. He had encyclopedic knowledge of these genres and won many WJET dance contests in the ‘50s. David also enjoyed NASCAR and classic car shows as well as golf and skiing earlier in life.

In addition to his parents and stepfather, David was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Dawson Bliley, and his sister-in-law, Deborah Ann Noble Bliley.

David was known for his kindness and compassion toward others. A wonderful, loving and caring husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Ann Morton Bliley; a son, Mark Dawson Bliley; three daughters, Rebecca Guerrein Hicks (John), Ann Marie Bliley-Ester (Kyle), and Erin Rose Chrobak (Andrew); three grandchildren, Dawson, Stella and Margo; a sister, Jean Marie Everberg (Carl); a sister-in-law, Judith Lynne Bliley; two brothers, Charles Arthur Bliley (Marilyn) and John Hall Bliley (Carolyn); a stepbrother, Gary Louis Kaiser (Rohnda); a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Levant Thomas and Christine Morton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
