Obituary/Notice

Beniamino “Ben” Joseph DeSantis, age 50 of Lake City, passed away on Saturday November 19, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital.

Ben was born in Erie, PA on May 22, 1972, a son of the late Angelo DeSantis and Hope Anderson Ferrington.

He was a 1991 graduate of Girard High School. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, cooking but most of all loved being with his family.  Ben’s love for bowling was second to none.  As the thunder would clap from the sky, he would often say “it’s God bowling”.  To Ben, he loved to hear the “thunder” of a strike on the lanes.  During his time on the lanes, he bowled 27 perfect “300” games and is remembered for his infamous “896” series in games 3-5 during the Times News Open held at Lake City Lanes in 2006.  He had the softest release of a bowling ball, but with good power.  His passion for the sport was incredible.  Always supporting the game, he taught and mentored many people, both youth and adults, on the lanes including his son Rowen.  He taught Rowen how to bowl and imparted much of his knowledge about the game to his son.  Ben loved the father son time at the lanes on Saturday mornings and one day hoped to bowl with Rowen in the Times News Open.  Ben would spend countless hours at the local bowling centers talking about the sport he loved to play and would often go to local tournaments and support his fellow bowling family when he wasn’t playing himself.  He will be fondly remembered by so many in the bowling community.  Bowl on Ben and make those thunderous strikes up in Heaven.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Angela DeSantis, a nephew, Justin Edwards and his grandparents.

Ben is survived by his wife Jenny Swiderski; daughter, Sammy Swiderski; son, Rowen DeSantis; sisters, Amanda (George Heitman) DeSantis, Anna (Adam) Tresler; sister in laws, Julie Swiderski and Gine Antiquiera; nieces, Jade DeSantis, Aaryha DeSantis, Shay Tresler, Fiona Antiquiera, Genevieve Antiquiera and Gabby Feathers; nephews, Kyle Meisel, Tyler Meisel, Ian Heitman, Rupert Antiquiera and Owen King. Further survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
