Nellie Golden Dingus

Nellie Golden (Kerns) Dingus age 95 of Erie passed away at her home on Monday, September 21, 2026. She was born on March 17, 1931 in Clarksburg, WV to the late Sylvanus and Nellie Shanks Kerns.

Nellie worked for over 15 years as a nurse’s aide. She also worked other positions in healthcare at St. Mary’s, Hamot and in doctor’s offices, and as an operator at Westinghouse. She enjoyed shopping, sewing, crafts, cooking, crocheting including making sweeper covers and blankets for all the grandchildren she loved so much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fay A. Dingus and 17 brothers and sisters.

Nellie is survived by her children, Clifton E. Kerns (Linda), Valerie Skelly (Michael) and Wendy S. Brockett (William) all of Erie; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, James Kerns (Ruth) of Wheeling, WV and Donald Kerns (Esther) of Long Island, NY; a brother-in-law, Clarence Dingus (Katherine) of Erie, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services Inc. Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Rd., Erie, PA on Monday, September 28, 2026 from 12:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM. Burial to follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
