Matthew Ziegenhine

November 24, 1982 — June 7, 2011

     Matthew Todd "Matt" Ziegenhine, 28, formerly of Clarion, died unexpectedly Tues., June 7, 2011 at his residence in Erie.  He was born Nov. 24, 1982 in Erie, son of James P. and The Rev. Canon Kathleen Roach Ziegenhine.  A 2001 graduate of Central High School, he was a member of the Marching Band and the National Honor Society.  He graduated from Clarion University in 2008 and was past president of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity.  Matt worked at Target in Erie.  He formerly attended The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, was active in the Youth Program Leadership, both on the Diocesan and Province III levels.  At the time of his death, he was a member of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul.  Matt was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, camping, music and especially history and NPR.
      In addition to his parents, who reside in Erie, he is survived by his siblings, Emily Atwood and her husband Charles of York, PA, Christopher Atwood of Pgh. and Benjamin Ziegenhine of Edinboro; his maternal grandfather, The Rev. Robert E. Roach and his wife Susan of Clifton Park, NY; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sherry Roach and his paternal grandparents, George and Beatrice Beemer Ziegenhine.
     Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from Noon to 2 p.m. at The Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul, 134 W. 7th St.  A funeral service will be conducted there Saturday at 3 p.m. with The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe, Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of N.W. PA., The Very Rev. John P. Downey and The Rev. Canon Dennis Blauser will co-officiate.  Inurnment will be at The Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul.  Memorials may be made to the Diocesan Camp Scholarship Fund, 145 W. 6th St., Erie, PA 16501.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St.
