In loving memory of Matherine Williams, who peacefully departed this world on May 24, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on June 23, 1946, in Erie, Pennsylvania, Mathie, as she was affectionately known, leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and generosity that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
Matherine was the cherished daughter of the late Matt Williams and Jessie Mae Wiley Williams.
Raised in a household rich with love and laughter, she was preceded in death by her beloved maternal grandmother, Irene Rice Wiley; her siblings, Patricia Williams, Sheldon Williams, Victoria Williams, Luella Williams Pratt and Patricia Williams and dear nieces, Antonia Williams and Shavon Williams.
Mathie is survived by her devoted sister, Linda Barnes and her family, who were the light of her life. She is further survived by her nephews, Ronald Williams (Milissa), Sheldon Williams Jr. (Melissa), George Saunders II (Tashia), Likieth Saunders (Tammy), Jermaine Saunders and Derrick Harris, along with nieces, Natasha Williams , CaSaundra Johnson and Kara Saunders who will continue to carry forward her spirit of kindness.
Marna Coleman along with Matherine’s godsons, Jerry Roberts, Terry Roberts, and Charles Holmes, as well as her dear friends, Lanora Roberts, Nettie Potts, Mae Roberts will fondly remember her as their guiding light. Her legacy will be remembered through her 40 great nieces and nephews and her 37 great great nieces and nephews.
A proud graduate of Academy High School, Mathie dedicated over three decades of her life to St. Vincent Hospital, where she served tirelessly in the neonatal department before taking on the role of unit secretary. Her colleagues and patients were touched by her unwavering dedication and compassionate care.
Mathie's kitchen was her sanctuary, where the delicious aroma of her cooking brought joy to all who gathered around her table. Her talent for baking was unmatched, and she delighted in sharing her culinary creations with others. Her evenings were spent in quiet reflection, reading her Bible, finding solace and strength in its pages. Those who knew Matherine recognized her for her unchanging kindness and generosity. She had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel valued and like family. Her gentle spirit and infectious smile left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path. Matherine taught Sunday school and served a missionary for First Born Apostolic Church.
A service to celebrate Mathie's extraordinary life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the First Born Apostolic Faith Church of God, located at 1221 East 19th Street, with visitation from 10: a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. Burial in the Erie Cemetery.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Nightingale for their compassionate care and to everyone who supported Matherine on this journey.
In honoring Mathie's memory, let us all strive to emulate her example of kindness and love. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will forever guide and inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rest in peace, dear Mathie. You are deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
