Mary Alice Ulmer

Mary Alice Ulmer, 77, was granted eternal heavenly rest by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 13, 2026.

Mary was born on July 28, 1949, in Heidelberg, Mississippi. She later moved to Erie and married the love of her life, Walter Ulmer. Together, they shared 38 years of marriage. Mary was an active member of Mount Ebal Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and faithfully served in many other duties. She loved singing, cooking, baking, taking road trips, watching her soap operas, socializing, and spending precious time with her grandchildren. Most of all, Mary had a generous heart and poured love into everyone she encountered.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ulmer; her parents, Fred and Janie Morgan; brother, Wilbert Morgan; daughter, Tamara Uvon Ulmer; godson, Duane Buckner II; brother-in-law, William Sansom Sr; sister-in-law, Essamarie Ulmer; and best friend, Irell Harden.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Sonya Cherise Ulmer; grandchildren, Jaron Ulmer, Jazmyn Szymczak, Jalen Szymczak, and Latayzha Szymczak; great-grandchildren, Aries Arrington, Ariel Arrington, Nova Beasley, Darion Beasley, Damya De'Lani, and Jahsir Cosby; godchildren, Victoria Sansom, DeAdra Walker, Jamal Ulmer, Hannah Ulmer, and Bo Ulmer; sisters, Dilcy Sansom, Shirley Donald, Helen Buckner, Verna Morgan, and Cynthia Morgan; brothers-in-law, Jake Ulmer (Ernestine) and Wilt Ulmer (Barbara); sisters-in-law, Mary Morgan, Josephine Newell, Lola Ulmer; along with a host of extended family members and friends.

Friends may visit with the family at Mount Ebal Missionary Baptist Church, 1617 East 26th Street, on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 12:00 P.M. with Reverend Timothy Ward of Mount Ebal Missionary Baptist Church officiating and Pastor Frederick Morgan to deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at Erie County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
