Mary Ethel McConnell

On September 22, 2026, Mary Ethel (Anderson) McConnell went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was 94 years old.

Mary was born on December 11, 1931, in Ellwood City, PA to Ralph and Marie (Snare) Anderson who was an accomplished pianist. Sadly, her mom passed away when Mary was only 10. She was the last surviving sibling of four.

She met and married her husband, Kenneth H. McConnell at the tender age of 19. At his passing they had been married for 67 years. Mary was a devoted wife and took great care of Ken up until he passed.

She will be greatly missed by her three children; Kathleen Barnes (EL), Ronald McConnell (Susan), and Stephen McConnell (Cathy).

While raising her children, she graduated from Edinboro University with a Masters in Education. She taught in Millcreek Schools for 14 years and tutored for another 22 years.

She lovingly took care of her six grandchildren on and off for many years. Shannon Gay (Jason), Nicole Barnes, Dawne Simmons (David), Jamie Balduf, Laura Baldwin (Isaac), and Kevin McConnell (Gina).

Mary and Ken spent many years sailing around Lake Erie and the Caribbean. When they both retired, they traveled extensively and were snowbirds and spent the winter in Winterhaven, FL. Mary enjoyed singing, teaching, bird watching, reading, and being a grandmother.

She was also a wonderful great-grandmother to her six great-grandsons; El Shaher & Zade, Xavier & Zen, Tytus & Oryon.

She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Erie City Mission, Community Country Day School, and Grandview elementary.

Mary was truly an angel on earth. She was a charter member of the Church of the Cross and sang in several chancel choirs for 64 years.

Memorials can be made to Church of the Cross.

There will be no visitation and per her wishes, her body was donated to medical science.
