Mary Margaret Dill Allen, 87, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, in Erie, Pennsylvania. Born on November 10, 1938, she was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Hathaway Dill.
Mary received her education at St. Patrick Catholic School and Villa Maria High School. She began her career at American Sterilizer Company, where she met the love of her life, Richard Allen. Together, they shared a beautiful marriage of 64 years and worked side by side in the Dill/Allen family business, Perry Screw Machine Co.
Mary was a devoted mother to her five children: Patty Chilcott (husband Bob Chilcott), Sue Thoren, Richard Allen, Tom Allen (partner Theresa Kowalski), and Jenifer Allen (partner Philip Dunning). She was a proud grandmother to Lauren Chilcott, Alison Chilcott, Shane Chilcott (wife Amanda), Caroline Thoren, and Megan Thoren. Mary eagerly anticipated the arrival of her first great-granddaughter. Her love extended beyond her human family to include her cherished dogs, grand-dogs, and grand-cats.
A woman of deep faith, Mary was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and St. George Catholic Church. She found joy in singing with the St. George Church choir and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. Her hobbies reflected her nurturing spirit as she dedicated herself to ensuring the happiness and safety of those she loved.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Dill and Margaret Hathaway Dill; brothers John “Jack” Dill and Richard Dill; sisters-in-law Ann Dill and Patricia Dill; and son-in-law Mark Thoren.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Residence at Presque Isle Bay and Lakeland Area Hospice for their compassionate care.
Friends are invited to call on Monday, March 16, 2026 at St. George Catholic Church, 5145 Peach St from 9:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
