Mary A. Poston Holman died February 24, 2014 in Buffalo, NY. She was born July 5, 1933 the daughter of the late Roy and Marybelle Simmons of Clairton, PA. A graduate of Clairton High School she retired from Bucyrus Erie as a laborer. She was a member of Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church. Our mother was a god fearing woman; our grandmother, her mother, made sure we all knew God. Raised up in the Pentecostal faith and attended Gethsemane Church of God in Christ. Our mother instilled morals and values in us all; as grown children we still live by to this day. She was a loving mother who only wanted what was best for her children, she loved us all, her children, family and friends. Our mom became ill and fought the good fight, going strong, holding on until God said, Mary it’s time to go home. Home she went, we miss you mom, our love will live on for you forever. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Holman; two brothers, Leroy, and James Simmons; grand-children, Avery, Avian, Tressa, Tareena, Agammien, Laneil, Lionel, Jr., NaTasha, Mervin, Jarrett, and Jordan Poston, all of Erie.
She is survived by her first husband, Merril D. Poston; her children, Melvin Jr., Lionel, Marvella, Melanie Poston, Leavette (Abe) Nelson, Lorie and Jovan Gwyn; and she is further survived by 30 grandchildren; 42 great grand-children and one great-great grandchild and her sisters; Bertha Mae Williams, of Clairton, Alma Pearson, of Erie, Marilyn Williams, of Philadelphia, Carolyn Holmes, of Conyers, GA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a dearest friend, Daisy Cooley Buchanan.
Friends may call at Greater Calvary Full Gospel Church 2624 German Street on Monday from 11 until the time of services at 1p.m with the Bishop Jesse Gavin officiating. Burial will be private.
We would like to express with grateful appreciation to our many friends the kind token of love displayed by numerous cards, floral arrangements, donations and countless other acts of sympathy.
Thank you for your words of comfort, prayers and friendships during these trying times. God Bless!
