Martin W. O'Connell, age 82, formerly of Voorhees, NJ, passed away on May 18th, 2026. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 29, 1943, the oldest son of the late Martin M. and Florence (Luthy) O'Connell. Upon graduation from St. John's University, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam from 1967-1970. Before deployment, he married the love of his life Margaret "Peg" on September 2, 1967.
Marty spent much of his professional life in sales, a career well suited to his gift for conversation and genuine love of people. In retirement, he continued that passion as a limousine driver, finding great joy in the many individuals and stories he encountered along the way.
Though he valued his work, nothing mattered more to Marty than his family. He was deeply proud of the life he and Peg built together, of his Irish heritage, and of his service to his country. Marty especially loved traveling with his family, creating lasting memories through road trips, vacations, shared meals, and long conversations around the dinner table. Whether at home or exploring somewhere new, he delighted in bringing the people he loved together and giving his children experiences they would carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Marty's family would like to extend their heartful thanks to the VA Home Based Primary Care nurses for their generous assistance with his medical needs towards the end of his life.
Martin is survived by his wife, daughters Ann-Marie Hullenbaugh and Kristin O'Connell, son Gregory (Sandy) O'Connell, and his three grandchildren Justin (Gretchen) Hullenbaugh, Melissa (Jared Gallagher) Hullenbaugh, and Kevin O'Connell. He is also survived by his brother Dennis (Marilyn) O'Connell and many extended family members.
