Marjorie Lee

Marjorie Lee was born on April 29, 1934, to the late Benjamin Wilson and Matilda Borden Wilson. After losing her mother at a very young age, she was lovingly raised by her Aunt Alice Borden, whom she regarded as a mother. As the only daughter among four children, Marjorie developed the independence, resilience, and unmistakable sense of self that defined her throughout her life.

A proud graduate of East Side High School in Newark, New Jersey, Marjorie was a natural leader with a distinctive flair for fashion. Stylish, confident, and entrepreneurial, she turned that passion into Margie’s Boutique, which she owned and operated in Newark for many years. The boutique became an expression of her creativity, personal style, and gift for connecting with people.

Marjorie later served as Bookstore Manager at The College of Saint Elizabeth before joining the Newark Watershed Conservation and Development Corporation, where she concluded her career and retired in 2015. Throughout her professional life, she was known for her determination, poise, and strong work ethic.

Of all Marjorie accomplished, nothing meant more to her than being a mother. Her only son, Sherman Lee, was her greatest pride and joy. Her devotion to him was steadfast, and that same generous spirit extended to those she considered family. When Marjorie loved you, she gave freely of herself, her time, and her wisdom.

Affectionately known as “Margie,” she was a woman of presence—elegant, spirited, outspoken when necessary, and unmistakably herself. While her style made an immediate impression, it was her humor, generosity, and devotion to those she loved that made her unforgettable.

On July 17, 2026, Marjorie completed her earthly journey and peacefully answered her Master’s call, leaving behind a beautifully lived life and an enduring legacy.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Wilson and Matilda Borden Wilson; her beloved aunts, Alice Borden and Agnes Wilson; and her brothers, Connie Wilson, Billy Wilson, and Wilburt Johnson.
